The word "mala" means "garland" - an object originally worn or carried as a talisman for protection. House Malas are for protection and blessing of the spirits of a place. They are not a product of a specific culture or religion; anyone can partake of their symbolic concentrated power.
This house mala is an object meant to mounted on a wall or hung on a door for protection and blessing in a tradition that has been embraced by many cultures for thousands of years.
From handle to focal, this mala is a about 9" (23 cm) from top to bottom and about 2" (5 cm) wide.
This mala is a tiny focal plaque (an organic square about 2 x 2") impressed with the figure of an angel against a dense background of 5-pointed stars. The plaque is of raku ceramic with a lovely iridescent blend of many soft hues.
Interlocked circles of beads, like the angel's halo, support the plaque with tiny African and Hill Tribe silver beads mixed with other interesting and consonant trade beads, Indian pressed metal, hand-formed ceramic, carved jade, Tibetan chevron and diminutive gemstones. The center stones of each circlet of beads are symbolic: Pyrite and vintage rose glass at the top, then a Rhyolite coin-shape, and at the bottom a large luminous quartz crystal with a pink inclusion.
This little angel will remind you of the spirit protection that exists unseen around you at all times.
